Dr. Shoo is a highly experienced Public Health Physician with over 50 years of  experience in Clinical and Public Health practice, research, training, health planning and programming, including as the Regional Advisor for UNICEF Eastern and Southern Africa, and as the Coordinator for the WHO Programmes in Somalia and later South Sudan. Dr. Shoo has also worked with the Tanzania Ministry of Health, South Sudan  AMREF GTZ Primary Health Care program, Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, and London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

He has vast experience in providing technical leadership through consultancies in health programming in Tanzania, Iraq, South Sudan, Sierra Leone, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Ethiopia, Zambia and UNICEF Regional Office in Nairobi.

We are excited to have  Dr. Shoo on board to guide THPS towards achieving its mission of promoting and supporting equitable, high quality, accessible, and sustainable health services for the Tanzanian society and beyond, through partnerships with government, local and international institutions, civil society, private sector and communities.

Dr. Redempta Mbatia is the current and founding Executive Director of THPS. With over 32 years of professional experience, she has overseen the implementation of more than 15 grants and donor-funded programs focusing on HIV, tuberculosis, reproductive, maternal and adolescent health, health systems strengthening, gender mainstreaming, and other public health areas. Dr. Mbatia holds a Medical Degree from the University of Dar es Salaam, postgraduate training in Internal Medicine from the University of London – St Thomas Hospital (UK), Fellowship at Stiftsklinik Augustinum (Germany), and an MSc in Epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

Prof. Racheal Manongi is a Public Health Specialist working at Tumaini University, Kilimanjaro Christian Medical University College. She has been the Primary Investigator for numerous research studies in collaboration with institutions such as Ocean Road Hospital in Tanzania, the University of London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Family Health International Research Triangle Park, USA, and Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health. Her research interests include cervical cancer prevention, maternal, newborn, and child health, community-based research, and postpartum depression. She has authored several publications addressing healthcare needs in Tanzania.

Mr. Francis Majige Nanai has over 20 years of corporate leadership experience. He has held various leadership roles such as Managing Director, COO, and member of senior management teams. Additionally, he has more than 15 years of experience heading sales and marketing functions in organizations including the Coca-Cola Company, Lafarge Cement, and Nation Media Group. Mr. Nanai has also served as the Managing Director of Mwananchi Communications Limited. He holds an MBA in Marketing and a BA in Economics from the University of Dar es Salaam.

Mr. Godfrey Linus Ngonyani is a seasoned audit and finance professional with over 25 years of experience in internal/external auditing, financial management, risk governance, and compliance. He has held senior roles, including Director of Internal Audit at NSSF and PSPF, and Senior Auditor at PwC, where he strengthened internal controls and promoted sound governance in both public and private sectors.

He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA-PP), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), and holds an MBA in Finance and a B.Com in Accounting from the University of Dar es Salaam.

Mr. Ngonyani is also a respected trainer, speaker, and co-founder of audit firms Lilac Associates and ABA Alliance. He has provided consultancy and capacity-building services across Tanzania and regularly presents at NBAA forums.

He currently serves on boards and audit committees for EWURA, SAGCOT Centre, HIMSO, and Watumishi Housing, offering strategic oversight in audit, compliance, and governance.

Angela Mndolwa is a seasoned legal professional with over 15 years of experience advising NGOs, corporations, and public institutions on governance, compliance, and partnerships. As a Partner at IMMMA Advocates (DLA Piper Africa), she has supported numerous development organizations in navigating regulatory frameworks and building sustainable legal structures.

Angela is passionate about strengthening health systems and brings her legal expertise to support THPS’s mission of improving healthcare access and outcomes across Tanzania.

Dr. Msafiri Marijani is the Director of Diagnostic Services at Mnazi Mmoja Referral Hospital in Zanzibar. He has participated in various tuberculosis research and has been published in various journals. Dr. Marijani has also served as Secretary of the Zanzibar Medical Research and Ethics Committee and as a Director on the Board of Directors for the Zanzibar Health Research Institute (ZAHRI). Additionally, he is the Founder and consultant of the One Stop Centers in Zanzibar.

Dr. Rachel Alice Makunde is a member of the THPS Board of Directors. She is a Medical Doctor with over 22 years of professional experience in senior management roles in both local and international organizations. Currently, she is the Executive Secretary for the Tanzania National Coordinating Mechanism for Global Fund, overseeing the implementation of Global Fund programs on HIV, Malaria, and Tuberculosis. Previously, she worked as a Senior program manager at Simavi in Tanzania and as a newborn advisor at Save the Children International Tanzania. Dr Makunde holds a medical degree and an MSc in tropical medicine.

Mr. George Anatory is the Chief Operations Officer of THPS, with over 30 years of experience managing agreements, grants, and contracts for international and local non-governmental organizations. His expertise includes financial management, project coordination, grant strategy design, and administration. He holds an accounting degree and a Master’s in Business Administration.
