The late Dr. Augustine Massawe was the founding chairperson of the THPS Board of Directors. He served on the clinical and research faculty at the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences. Dr. Massawe, a highly experienced pediatrician and neonatologist, was a pioneer in preventing mother-to-child HIV transmission in Tanzania. He authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and books on pediatric and neonatal health.

Dr. Redempta Mbatia is the current and founding Executive Director of THPS. With over 32 years of professional experience, she has overseen the implementation of more than 15 grants and donor-funded programs focusing on HIV, tuberculosis, maternal health, gender mainstreaming, and other public health areas. Dr. Mbatia holds a Medical Degree from the University of Dar es Salaam, postgraduate training in Internal Medicine from the Technical University of Munich, and an MSc in Epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

Mr. George Anatory is the founding member and current Chief Operations Officer of THPS. He has over 30 years of experience managing agreements, grants, and contracts for international and local non-governmental organizations. His expertise includes financial management, project coordination, grant strategy design, and administration. He holds an accounting degree and a Master’s in Business Administration.

Professor Palamagamba John Kabudi is a founding member of THPS. He is a renowned lawyer who previously served as the country’s Minister for Constitution and Legal Affairs and, before that, as Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation. He also held the position of Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Dar es Salaam from 2009 until his recent retirement. Professor Kabudi has extensive experience in the Tanzanian judiciary, human rights, state policy, and legal challenges. Additionally, he is a recipient of the Eduardo Mondlane International Law Prize.

Dr. Fatma Mrisho is a founding member of THPS and a prominent public health specialist in reproductive and sexual health. She has held key positions, including Executive Director at the Tanzania Commission for AIDS and UNFPA Country Representative to Uganda. She also worked as the Regional Advisor for Reproductive Health for UNFPA English-speaking countries based in Ethiopia and as the Director of Preventive Health Services at the Tanzanian Ministry of Health. Dr. Mrisho holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health from Makerere University in Uganda and an MSc in Human Nutrition from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, UK.

Dr. Yahya Ipuge is a founding member of THPS and a retired senior public health specialist with over 30 years of experience. He has worked with various organizations and has expertise in clinical microbiology, immunology, and disease control programs. Dr. Ipuge has led initiatives in restructuring disease control programs and introducing ART services for HIV patients in Tanzania. Additionally, he initiated rural HIV/AIDS initiatives in specific regions.
