Dr. Geofrey Tarimo

Dr. Geofrey Tarimo is the Technical Manager for USAID Police and Prisons Activity. In this role he is responsible for managing day-to-day aspects of the project’s technical operations, ensuring expected performance standards are achieved with excellence in HIV and TB service delivery, including engagement and coordination with government and national partners for HIV and TB programs.

Before this, Dr. Tarimo served as the Zonal Technical Manager for the USAID Police and Prisons Activity Eastern Zone, providing leadership, management, monitoring/evaluation and technical support in the overall implementation of the USAID Police and Prisons Activity for comprehensive HIV and TB care, treatment and prevention services at the Eastern  Zone. 

He also worked as the Regional Manager for AFYA KWANZA PROJECT in Kigoma Region, where he provided overall leadership to THPS team in Kigoma by supporting Kigoma Regional Health Management Team and Council Health Management Teams in the implementation of HIV care and treatment interventions towards achieving epidemic control while also integrating cervical cancer prevention, Tuberculosis diagnosis and treatment, gender equity, voluntary medical male circumcision, sexual and reproductive health services as well as strengthening laboratory and supply chain management.

He has over a decade of experience working as a technical expert and holding leadership positions in health promotion projects funded by the Canadian Government and PEPFAR through USAID and CDC in Tanzania. Before joining THPS, Dr. Tarimo worked with Amref Health Africa in Simiyu Region on a  Maternal Newborn and Child Health project “Uzazi Uzima”. He also worked with Management and Development for Health in Kagera region in an HIV care and treatment project and later joined FHI360 in Mtwara region in a comprehensive health service delivery project.

Dr. Tarimo holds a Medical Degree and a Master’s in public health from Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences. He has first-hand experience working with Regional and Local Government Authorities and health systems from the grassroots to the National Level.
