Dr. Joshua Gikaro

Dr. Joshua Gikaro is the Zonal Technical Manager for the USAID Police and Prisons Activity, Northern Zone implemented by THPS. Under that role he provides leadership, management and technical support in overall implementation of the USAID Police and Prisons Activity for comprehensive HIV and TB care, treatment and prevention services across Northern Zone in Tanzania. Specifically, he is responsible for planning, coordination, management, monitoring and evaluation of program activities at this Zone. Prior to this he worked as the District Program Manager at THPS, Afya Kwanza Project, Pwani region.

Dr. Joshua’s areas of technical specialization include programming for comprehensive HIV, TB and TB/HIV care and treatment services; differentiated service delivery models, HIV and TB continuous quality improvement, health researches, health leadership and management, health care strategic planning and health monitoring and evaluation.

He has over 8 years of experience in management, technical and strategic leadership of health programs including HIV, TB, TB/HIV, maternal, child and adolescent health services. In 2013, he joined ICAP – Columbia University, Mailman School of Public Health – Tanzania, Endeleza Program at a position of HIV/AIDS & TB Care and Treatment Clinical Advisor, and later he served as the Technical Advisor for Bukoba HIV/AIDS Combination Prevention Evaluation (BCPE) during intervention phase.

Dr. Joshua also served as the Zonal Technical Advisor for JSI Research and Training Institute, Inc. AIDSFree Project, Strengthening Comprehensive HIV and TB Services Delivery to Tanzania`s Uniformed Services (police and prisons) He holds a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree and Masters of Public Health from Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS), Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.
