Dr. Otmar Massawa

Dr. Otmar Massawa is the Regional Program Manager for the CDC/PEPFAR Afya Hatua Project in Tanga. He oversees program activities in the region, building and maintaining the program’s relationship with the Regional Secretariat and the District Administrations to ensure program objectives are achieved.

He is a passionate Medical Doctor and a Public Health Specialist with over 14 years of work experience in the public sector and donor-funded programs, and nine years of experience managing and leading donor-funded projects in Tanzania.

Previously he worked as the Zonal Project Manager of the USAID Uhuru Tuberculosis and Family Planning Facility Solutions Activity at THPS in Songwe and Rukwa regions responsible for the provision of leadership, management, and technical support in the overall implementation of the Activity.

Before joining THPS Dr. Otmar worked with other donor-funded organizations in different capacities such as Clinical Program Officer, Clinical Advisor, and Senior Clinical Advisor at ICAP in Kagera Region. He also had a stint with HJF Medical Research International as Regional Clinical Coordinator for Katavi region before being promoted to the position of Regional Program Manager for Rukwa and Katavi rregions.

He has vast experience in the implementation of HIV/AIDS interventions such as VMMC, HIV care and treatment (both paediatrics and adults), PMTCT, continuous quality improvement, nutritional support, TB services, family planning services, Gender-based violence (GBV), TB/HIV collaborative services, and community-based HIV/AIDS services including HIV testing and counselling services.

He holds a Master of Public Health and a Medical Doctor Degree from Muhimbili University College of Health and Allied Sciences, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
