Dr. Yahya Ipuge

Dr Yahya Ipuge is a THPS founder member and retired senior public health specialist but currently works as an independent consultant in health policy, health systems and disease control strategies.  Dr Ipuge has over 30 years of experience in senior technical and leadership positions in the health sector spanning across service delivery, academic, management and research with a proven track record. He worked at the Ministry of Health in Tanzania, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), GIZ/EPOS Health Management, the Ministry of Health in Malawi, the Ifakara Health Institute, and the World Bank Group.

Dr Ipuge is a specialist in clinical microbiology and immunology with extensive public health experience in disease control programs.  He led the restructuring of the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Program, the establishment of the Diagnostic Services Sections at the Ministry of Health, the designing of the National Blood Transfusion Services, and spearheaded the introduction of ART services for people living with HIV in Tanzania under the CDC PEPFAR program and the rural HIV/AIDS initiative in Mtwara and Lindi regions through CHAI.
